An ancient Byzantine tradition in communion with Rome

The Jacksonville Melkite Catholic Outreach brings the richness of Eastern Christianity to Northeast Florida, celebrating the Divine Liturgy in the Byzantine tradition.
We celebrate the Divine Liturgy according to the ancient Byzantine Rite, preserving centuries of sacred tradition with reverence and beauty.
As Eastern Catholic Christians, we are in full communion with the Holy See in Rome while maintaining our distinctive Eastern liturgical heritage.
The Melkite Church traces its roots to the Apostolic See of Antioch, one of the oldest continuous Christian communities in the world.
We warmly welcome all who seek to worship in the beauty of the Byzantine tradition, whether lifelong Melkites or newcomers to our rite.
The Melkite Catholic Church is one of the 23 Eastern Catholic Churches in full communion with Rome. Our name comes from the Syriac word "malko" meaning "king," referring to our ancestors who accepted the Council of Chalcedon.
We celebrate the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, enriched with beautiful Byzantine chant, incense, and iconography. Our worship engages all the senses in prayer and brings heaven down to earth.
Today, there are approximately 1.6 million Melkites worldwide, with communities spanning the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and beyond. We preserve ancient traditions while remaining fully Catholic.

Bishop of Newton for Melkites
His Grace Bishop François serves as the shepherd of the Eparchy of Newton, guiding Melkite Greek Catholic faithful throughout the United States. Ordained to the episcopacy with a deep commitment to preserving the rich Byzantine tradition, he leads with pastoral care and spiritual wisdom.
"The beauty of our Byzantine tradition is not simply in its ancient liturgy, but in how it brings us into the heavenly reality even now, making us participants in the Divine mysteries."
— Bishop François
Bishop François received his theological formation in both Eastern and Western traditions, earning degrees in sacred theology and canon law. His studies took him through renowned ecclesiastical institutions where he developed a profound understanding of both the Byzantine rite and the universal Catholic Church.
Before his episcopal ordination, he served in various pastoral roles, including parish ministry, seminary formation, and diocesan administration, gaining invaluable experience in shepherding God's people.
Ordained as Bishop of Newton for Melkites, His Grace assumed the responsibility of guiding one of the most vibrant Eastern Catholic communities in North America. His episcopal motto reflects his commitment to unity in diversity and faithfulness to apostolic tradition.
Under his leadership, the Eparchy continues to grow in faith, preserving the ancient Byzantine liturgical heritage while engaging contemporary pastoral challenges with wisdom and compassion.
Dedicated to the spiritual welfare of all the faithful, making regular pastoral visits to parishes throughout the eparchy.
Committed to catechesis and theological formation, ensuring the faithful understand and cherish their Byzantine Catholic heritage.
Active in fostering unity among Christians, particularly strengthening bonds with Orthodox and Oriental churches.
Strengthening parish life and fostering vibrant faith communities rooted in liturgy, prayer, and service
Supporting youth and young adult ministry, ensuring the Byzantine tradition is passed on to future generations
Promoting vocations to priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life within the Melkite tradition
Advancing charitable works and social justice initiatives that reflect the Gospel call to serve the poor and marginalized
"Pray for me as I pray for you, that together we may grow in holiness and witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
— His Grace Bishop François
